Extended Day 2-4 p.m., Supervision available 7:30-9 a.m.
What: Chauncy Fiddle Week is a fun, inclusive, and positive music experience for strings students. Activities focus on learning traditional Celtic and American fiddle tunes by ear, having fun outdoors, and making new friends!
Who: CFW is open to players of all string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and double bass) entering grades 5 through 9. Participants should have at least two years' playing experience, either with a private teacher or at school. Participants do not need prior experience with fiddle style music.
Where: CFW is held on beautiful Lake Chauncy in Westborough, MA.
When: June 24-28, 2024.
What is the daily schedule? Students receive three musical instruction periods daily. The schedule also includes a snack and activity break, lunch break, and an hour of water and lawn game recreation time. The last day features a student concert for family and friends.
What is Extended Day? Extended day activities are participant-driven and may include swimming, boating, lawn games, or board games. Participants love the extra time with their new friends! No further music instruction is provided during this time, but participants are welcome to use this time to practice their new tunes together.
About the Instructors: Elizabeth Anderson (Director and Fiddle Instructor) is the 2020 U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion and 2016 winner of the Perth All-Scotland Fiddle Championship. She graduated from Westborough High School and holds a BM in Music Education from Berklee College of Music in Boston and a MM in Music Education from Ithaca College. She currently works as the middle school orchestra director in the Walpole, MA public schools. She created Chauncy Fiddle Week to share the joy of fiddle music with young musicians in and around her hometown.
Ben Anderson (Low Strings Instructor) has taught cello at Chauncy Fiddle Week for many years. He inspires students with his creative and intuitive musicality. Ben adds depth to our CFW tunes with bass lines and harmonies that anyone can play, as well as teaching fiddle-style cello techniques.
